about us

Wainwright have been supplying premium aggregates to the construction industry since 1891. Now as then, Wainwright's are proud to be an independent business, renowned for its innovation, environmental and ecological awareness and strong local roots and community responsibilities. Our independence and these shared values set us apart in our sector.
Wainwright's have maintained their market share through the expansion of the company's core capabilities, major inward investment and the professionalism of its extremely experienced staff at all levels and ultimately the quality of its major asset, the Basalt upon which the company was founded. This Basalt extrusion is the only example of hardstone in the Mendips and was formed in the Silurian period, approximately 425 million years ago.

In 2001, Wainwright established a comprehensive Roads Surfacing Division. This division subsequently gained Sector Scheme 16 "Laying of Asphalt Materials" accreditation. In 2003 Wainwright Surfacing formed a company called Mendip Contracting in partnership with Foster Yeoman - now Aggregate Industries - and secured the £6,000,000 pa Somerset Surfacing sub Contract on behalf of Atkins. Since 2001, Wainwright Surfacing has gone on to win further contracts with other local authorities, such as West Berkshire Council, as well as a multitude of private vent contracts, which include projects such as the new Frome Hospital.

2006 was a stand out year for Wainwright's. After a £4.5 million investment, Wainwright's commissioned their Benninghoven Asphalt Plant. It was a bold statement, but one which spoke of intent, quality and our desire to meet the requirements of the sector, to build on our solid portfolio and to bring only premium Asphalts to the market place.
