2002

This
year John Wainwright & Co Ltd will celebrate a 100 years as a registered
company.

We
plan to have a number of events throughout the year, but one idea is to raise
some money for a good cause.
We
have chosen the Wallace & Gromet Appeal which raises money for the Bristol
Children's Hospital. Now the hospital is complete the appeal raises money for
the equipment and facilities the NHS simply does not fund. These include accommodation
facilities for the families of seriously ill children and a child friendly MRI scanner.
The
Wainwright team on the 15th June 2002 were taken up to 13,000 feet and came
back to earth by completing a tandem freefall parachute jump.

Wainwrights
Open Day
We
had a very successful open day for all the local people. Some of the attractions
included: tours of the quarry, simulator rides, views from a crane, clay shoot,
boats on the lake, transport display, nature walk, competitions, food &
beer. Over a 1,000 attended and the weather was perfect.
Here
is a flavour of the day...

September

Race
day at Castle Combe.

This
was a day out organised by the New Era Motor Cycle Club for around 60 of our
guests. Our surfacing manager Mr Steve Caffyn who happens to run a racing team
won 2 races with his DUCATI 996 in the "Sound of Thunder" events. The rider
was Barrie Middleton.

The
100th AGM attended by our Chairman Alistair Ross Gooby, MD Peter Barkwill, Directors
Ian Timberlake, Geraldine Lovell and numerous share holders.

The
setting was a marquee by the lake; I wonder what the next 100th AGM will look
like?

October
7th 2002
We
have invested a new paving machine, ABG Ingersoll-Rand 473.

This
was its first job completing a new roundabout on the A30 London Road, Salisbury.

December 24th
2002
Christmas
Eve, the last working day of 2002.

Before
we went home a few presents anonymously given to each other and costing no more
than £5. A good end to an interesting and busy year for us
all.
